I am human, imperfect but free.

We dwell in the now, but the past casts its shadow.
Our choices and faces still weigh on our hearts.
Our errors have taught us, but also have scarred us.
Our lost loves still haunt us and tear us apart.
They all serve to warn us of repeating our failures.
But sometimes they seem to just cause us more pain.
They will fade as we learn to forgive our own blunders.
And heal the deep wounds that we carry within

I find it much simpler to pardon another.
Than to grant myself mercy for what I have done
But I do learn to let go of my guilt and my sorrow.
For if not, I would hurt myself and everyone.
It is not an easy task to forgive one’s own self.
But it is not beyond reach for a mortal like me.
I must remember that I am not alone in my faults.
And that I am human, imperfect but free.
